Today, the forest fire season is longer than it was a decade ago and incidents of flooding and storms have increased over the same time period. How we mitigate, prepare, respond and recover is much different than is has been and "Embracing the Future Together", the Vancouver Island Emergency Preparedness Conference (VIEPC) 2021 will focus on what has changed, what to expect and how we need to manage our work as emergency management professionals and volunteers, as well as COVID-19.

Over three days, 2021 May 13-15, through virtual workshops, keynote speakers, demonstrations, a trade show and networking,  participants will learn the latest developments in emergency management best practices and discover lessons learned “in our back yard” and beyond.

The conference is a unique educational opportunity and it is the largest gathering of emergency staff and volunteer responders in a region that includes Vancouver Island, neighbouring islands, the Sunshine Coast and isolated areas.

Who Should Attend?

The conference brings together:

  • Dedicated emergency preparedness and response volunteers and staff;

  • Community groups and non-government organizations providing emergency response services;

  • Individuals, neighbourhood groups and agencies interested in learning about emergency management; and

  • Provincial and local governments, including First Nations.
